Objectives: |

Driver CPC is being introduced to improve the knowledge and skills of lorry, bus and coach drivers which in turn will;
- improve road safety
- support the road freight and passenger transport industries by providing savings through more fuel efficient and defensive driving and help the industries with staff recruitment and retention.
- raise the profile of the driving profession through maintaining skills levels, improving career opportunities and enhancing the image of drivers as 'professionals'.
- help the environment through reduced fuel consumption and vehicle wear and tear.

Who should attend: |
|
Driver CPC is relevant to both new and existing drivers.
For existing drivers; if you have a full license for a truck or bus before Driver CPC comes into force on the10th September 2008 for buses and the 10th September 2009 for trucks, you will automatically get your Driver CPC without having to take more tests. This is called acquired rights. In order to keep your Driver CPC, you must do 35 hours of periodic training (seven hours per year) over the next five years.
For new drivers; if you want to become a professional bus driver after the 10th September 2008 or a professional truck driver after the 10th September 2009 you will have to do a Driver CPC examination.
The examination includes:
- a two hour multiple choice theory test,
- a two hour case study theory test,
- a 90 minute driving test, and
- a 30 minute practical test.

- Effective use of safety controls in PSV`s and LGV`s
- Optimizing fuel consumption
Module 2 - Minimizing risks and managing emergencies in the transport industries
- Risks of the road and accidents at work
- Ability to assess emergency situations
Module 3 - Health and Safety of the professional driver
- The importance of physical and mental ability of professional drivers
- Preventing physical risks
Module 4 - Role of the professional driver in the transport industries
- Ability to adopt behavior to help enhance the image of the profession
- Understanding the social environment of road transport and the rules governing it
Module 5 - The professional bus driver
- Ensuring passenger comfort and safety
- Loading the vehicle
- Preventing criminality and trafficking in illegal immigrants
- The regulations governing the carriage of passengers
- The economic environment of the carriage of passengers by road and the organization of the market
Module 6 - The professional truck driver
- Safely loading vehicles
- Preventing criminality and trafficking in illegal immigrants
- Carriage of goods. C License
- The economic environment of road haulage and the organization of the market
